THE CITY OF BABYLON
(AV) This is the most famous ancient city in the whole world. Its ruins covering about thirty square kilometers lie on the east bank of Euphrates about 90 km south of Baghdad. It was the capital of ten Iraqi dynasties starting with the dynasty of Hammorabi; the sixth king of the first dynasty. The last dynasty is well known particularly of its second king, Nabuchtnasur, to whom most of Babylon’s existing buildings belong. The most important of the standing monuments of Babylon today are the Summer and Winter Palaces of Nebuchadnezzar, the Ziggurat attached to it, the Ceremonial Street, and Ishtar Gate.

AQARQOUF (DOR KURIGALZO)
The ruins of this monument city lie about 30 kilometers to the west of Baghdad. Its old name is (Dor Kurigalzo) which means “the city of king Kurigalzo”. The history of this city dates back to the fourteenth century BC and lasted as a capital of the Kassite Dynasty in Mesopotamia up to the end of the eleventh century BC. The only thing which is still standing is the Ziggurat; the great construction built by the Kassite during the rule of King Kurigalzo II (1344-1324 BC).
